Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia.

Live from New York, it's — what the hell is going on?

Carrie Fisher hosted Saturday Night Live in 1978, not long after she became a household name thanks to Star Wars. Her character, Leia, was so popular, Fisher came out as the princess for her opening monologue in which she bounced jokes off Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Yes, it is as out there as it sounds. But, that's not even the best part.

The absolute best part is the skit following the monologue when the princess visits a beach party attended by a slimy Bill Murray character looking for some action.

We don’t want to ruin anything, but the skit ends with Leia in a two-piece and taking part in a musical number.

Sure, it sounds strange, but it was the ‘70s, so whatever.

Fisher died Tuesday at the age of 60. Her Star Wars family, made up of actors and legions and legions of fans, were heartbroken by the news.
