Zeta-Jones joins Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren and Mary-Louise Parker, all of whom appeared in the first film. Byun-Hun Lee (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) also is joining the cast. Summit sister company Lionsgate International will sell the film at the upcoming Cannes film market.
Dean Parisot is directing from a screenplay by Erich and Jon Hoeber, who wrote the first film. Lorenzo DiBonaventura and Mark Vahradian are producing the film via their DiBonaventura Pictures banner.
The film is scheduled to be released on August 2, 2013.
“We had so much fun making RED and seeing that amazing cast assembled together – and so did consumers: over $200m worldwide and the number one home entertainment rental of last year," said Erik Feig, president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, Production, in a statement. "We can't wait to bring them back together, give them some new friends, and show they ‘still got it.’”
