ComiXology Launches Monthly "Netflix for Comics" Subscription
Finally, the long-awaited "Netflix for comics" seems to have arrived in the form of ComiXology Unlimited, a new subscription service that will offer content from Image Comics, Dark Horse Comics, IDW Publishing, BOOM! Studios and other publishers for a $5.99 monthly fee.
Announced Tuesday, the service follows the model of ComiXology's parent company Amazon's Kindle Unlimited program, with critically acclaimed titles including Hellboy, Love & Rockets and Scott Pilgrim available to read on- or offline.
As with Netflix's streaming platform, titles will be cycled onto and off the platform at irregular intervals, with the service intended to act as an introduction to new titles for later purchase as opposed to a replacement for purchase.
“We’re in a new golden age of storytelling with more incredible comics, graphic novels and manga than ever before,” ComiXology’s CEO and co-founder David Steinberger said in a statement. “ComiXology Unlimited is a fantastic portal to tons of great comics at a ridiculously great price. Get in there and start exploring."
