Daniel Espinosa to Direct Mystery Project for Skydance
Daniel Espinosa, coming off the flop Child 44 earlier this year, has boarded Life, a mystery project being developed at Skydance.
What Life is about is being kept secret but the project has a script by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, the duo who wrote the upcoming Deadpool movie.
Ellison is producing with Dana Goldberg. Also producing are Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn.
Espinosa was part of the Scandinavian wave that hit Hollywood shores a few years ago, impressing with his crime movie Easy Money. He made a splash with his studio debut with 2012’s Safe House, which starred Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds. His follow-up three years later was Child 44, which only grossed $1.2 million at the domestic box office.
Skydance is the ace production company which tried to revive the Terminator franchise with Terminator: Genisys. The movie failed to excite domestically although did well internationally, but still leaves any future outings in limbo.
The company hopes to bounce back with another homegrown project, Geostorm, an environmental disaster movie starring Gerard Butler.
Updated Nov. 18, 3:20PM: The idea for the movie did not originate from Skydance CEO David Ellison.
