Diamond Comic Distributors has announced the winners of the 2014 Diamond Gem Awards, chosen by comic book retailers. DC Entertainment comes out on top, with seven wins — including Best Original Graphic Novel of the Year and Backlist Publisher of the Year, but it’s Walking Dead publisher Image Comics that took the coveted title of Comic Book Publisher of the Year in the “Over 4 percent Market Share” category.

Marvel saw a lot of success as well, winning the Comic Book of the Year title in both price ranges (Under and over $3.00, respectively) with Ms. Marvel and the relaunched Thor taking gongs. The publisher also got the nod for Best Free Comic Book Day Book, for its Guardians of the Galaxy special edition.

“We established the Gem Awards to give retailers an opportunity to recognize the suppliers, titles and products that have been instrumental in helping their businesses grow over the past year,” said Diamond CEO Steve Geppi in a statement. “Our suppliers work diligently to support retailers and the entire industry with top-quality titles and products, and we thank all of the retailers who took time from their busy schedules to vote and acknowledge those efforts.”

Nominees for each category were selected by Diamond, based not only on quality but also sales performance across the last 12 months, with the winners then chosen by store owners and retailers. The full list of winners is below.
