Disney's 'Something Wicked This Way Comes' Hires 'Wrath of the Titans' Writer (Exclusive)
Disney's adaptation of Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes has hired Wrath of the Titans writer David Leslie Johnson to pen the script.
Author and screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith will make his directorial debut with the project. The story follows two teen boys whose small Midwestern town is taken over by a carnival featuring a mysterious leader who seems to be able to grant the townsfolk's wishes — but at a very dark cost.
Disney and KatzSmith Productions announced in March that they would move forward on a film based on Bradbury's 1962 fantasy novel.
Grahame-Smith is an author, producer and screenwriter whose previous work includes the books Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, along with the scripts for Dark Shadows and the upcoming LEGO: Batman movie. Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg are producing through their KatzSmith Productions banner.
Disney had previously adapted the book into the 1983 movie directed by Jack Clayton from a screenplay by Bradbury. It starred Jason Robards, Jonathan Pryce, Diane Ladd and Pam Grier.
Johnson has written for AMC's hit show The Walking Dead and TNT's Mob City. He's written several screenplays that match up with the dark, fantastical themes of Something Wicked, including Red Riding Hood and Wrath of the Titans. Johnson is repped by Paradigm and Behr Abramson Levy.
