DreamWorks Animation Sets Voice Cast for 'Me & My Shadow' (Exclusive)
Kate Hudson, "Book of Mormon" star Josh Gad and "SNL" comic Bill Hader will star in the animated fantasy.
The Book of Mormon star Josh Gad, Saturday Night Live’s Bill Hader and Kate Hudson have signed to star as the voice cast of Me & My Shadow, the animated fantasy from DreamWorks Animation.
Alessandro Carloni, who served as head of story on DWA’s Oscar nominated How to Train Your Dragon, will make his directorial debut on the movie, which is being produced by Melissa Cobb (Kung Fu Panda 2).
Conceived in-house as an original film, Shadow centers on Stan, a shadow (Hader) who yearns for a more exciting life than being attached to a timid human named Stanley Grubb (Gad). When a crime in the shadow community puts both of their lives in danger, Stan is forced to take control of Stanley, thrusting both of them into an adventure featuring a shadowy villain, who intends to lead a rebellion to take over the human world. Hudson will voice Grubb’s potential love interest in the real world.

The movie will mix up CG and traditional animation (the shadow world will be handrawn while the human world will be CG), which the studio hopes will be pioneering and create an experience not seen before.
Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember are writing the screenplay. Steve Bencich and Ron J. Friedman wrote the initial draft. Jeff Hermann (Kung Fu Panda 2) is co-producing.
The studio has set a November 13, 2013 release date for the movie.
Mark Dindal, who helmed The Emperor's New Groove, was previously on board as director.
Gad, repped by ICM, Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Ziffren Brittenham, has previously done voice work in such movies as Marmaduke and the upcoming Ice Age: Continental Drift. He last appeared on screen in 2010’s Love and Other Drugs.
Hader, repped by UTA, Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment and Felker Toczek, has lent his voice for Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and 2009’s Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs and will be seen in this summer’s Men in Black III.
Hudson, who is making her animation debut with Shadow, last starred in the romantic comedy Something Borrowed. She is repped by CAA and Jackoway Tyerman.
