Feige on Vin Diesel's Marvel Tease: 'I Have No Idea'
Marvel's president claims ignorance when it comes to Vin Diesel's talk of a "merging of the brands" in the future for the studio.
When Vin Diesel teased that he'd been discussing a future Marvel Studios project that would be a "merging of the brands," many wondered what that could mean. Among those wondering, it seems, was Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.
Asked by /Film about Diesel's comments, Feige said simply, "I have no idea what he's talking about."
He went on to discuss the importance of the existing brand merging that Marvel Studios has done -- namely, its shared universe between the various superheroes. "We do small friends and family screenings on all of our movies," Feige said. "We can see on our cards people are like, 'I love the references to the other movies,' and then you flip the cards around and go, 'Which other movies have you seen of ours?' 'None.' 'What?' So there is something that audiences respond to that just inherently is neat, probably because it doesn't happen very often."
The success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Feige claimed, helped other superhero movies raise their game. "What it really does is give other people, whether they inherently understand the comics or not, the confidence to believe in a filmmaker or believe in source material and go, 'Maybe we should stay close to the source material. Maybe we should use these more fantastical storylines or elements and bring those to life, because the MCU is working it out,'" he said.
