First Ripley Action Figure Leads 'Alien' 35th Anniversary Merchandise
NECA's replica of Sigourney Weaver's action hero is part of a new marketing push that also encompasses comics, video games and Halloween outfits.
2014 marks the 35th anniversary of Ridley Scott's Alien, and to celebrate, Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products has lined up a Nostromo-full of new merchandise including new comic books, video games and the first action figure based on Sigourney Weaver's iconic Ellen Ripley.
"As we celebrate the 35th anniversary of one of the most successful film franchises of all time, we are thrilled to introduce an array of commemorative products across different categories in partnership with iconic brands including NECA, SEGA and many more,” Jeffrey Godsick, president of Fox Consumer Products, said about the merchandising blitz.
In addition to the already announced Alien: Isolation video game and Dark Horse Comics' new line of Alien, Prometheus and Predator comic books, Titan Books will be releasing Alien: Archives, a retrospective look at the movie franchise including new interviews with Scott and Weaver, while companies such as Hollywood Collectibles and Rubie's Costume Company will launch replica props and costumes related to the franchise.
For the action figure fans, the news of an official Ripley figure from NECA -- part of a line that also will include other action figures as well as plush toys and bobbleheads -- might be the most exciting part of the anniversary celebration. "Hardcore fans can finally add Lt. Ellen Ripley to their Alien collections as we welcome her NECA figures into the family of officially licensed merchandise," Godsick explained.
Prototypes of the Ripley figure (concept art above) will debut at this year's San Diego Comic-Con.
