First Trailer Released for Stephenie Meyer's 'The Host' (Video)
The Open Road Films adaptation stars Saoirse Ronan as young heroine Melanie Stryder.
With more than a year to go until The Host hits theaters, Open Road Films has just released the first trailer for the forthcoming sci-fi thriller.
Based on Twilight author Stephenie Meyer’s young adult novel of the same name, The Host stars Saoirse Ronan as young heroine Melanie Stryder, a human living among an alien race called Souls in a dystopian future. In the book, Melanie’s body and mind is inhabited by a soul named Wanderer, but refuses to completely surrender her mind’s control. Wanderer is flooded with vivid and powerful memories of the people whom Melanie loves, including her brother Jamie and love interest, Jared.

Andrew Niccol, whose previous credits include Gattaca and In Time, serves as both screenwriter and director of The Host.
In the trailer below, Ronan’s voice can be heard describing the future of Earth.
“The earth is at peace,” she says. “There are no wars. There is no hunger. Honesty, courtesy and kindness are practiced by all. The world has never been more perfect.”
Adding: “It is no longer your world.”
Humans of various ages, races and backgrounds then flash across the screen, all of them sharing the same blue eyes – an apparent sign of Soul inhabitance.
The Host is set to hit theaters on March 29, 2013.
