Good Universe to Adapt 'Angelfall' With Sam Raimi Producing
Raimi will produce the adaptation of Susan Ee's postapocalyptic angel-themed YA book.
Good Universe and Sam Raimi are teaming to develop an adaptation of the postapocalyptic angel-themed young-adult book Angelfall.
The company, Raimi and his producing partner Robert Tapert have picked up movie rights to the Susan Ee-penned tome as well as the series Penryn & the End of Days, in which Angelfall is the first book. Raimi will produce with Tapert.
Angelfall was released Aug. 28 by Amazon Children's Publishing but previously had generated heat as a self-published e-book. It was a finalist for the 2011 Cybils award for best young-adult fantasy and science fiction and was ranked No. 1 on Goodreads' list of best independent novels.
The story is set weeks after angels of the apocalypse wreak revenge against mankind for the killing of Archangel Gabriel. When 17-year-old Penryn fails to escort her mother and wheelchair-bound sister to safety, she teams with a handsome young angel with clipped wings, braving evil seraphs, human gangs and cannibals in a quest to find her sister.
Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane will executive produce.
Paradigm repped Ee in the deal. (The agency's Lucy Stille first read Angelfall as an e-book.) Aaron Lam brought the book to the producers. Nicole Brown will oversee for Good Universe.
