How best to keep regional comic book stores in fans' minds as San Diego Comic-Con looms on the horizon? Comic book publisher Valiant Entertainment has an unexpected solution: turn comic book stores into temporary PokeStops for Pokemon Go.

Since its launch earlier this month, Pokemon Go has become a fully-fledged international phenomenon as everyone — including many celebrities — rushes to catch 'em all, despite the real-world dangers involved in the hunt (including some unexpected legal hurdles). Now Valiant is offering comic book stores the chance to cash in on the craze, with the hope that the promotion will translate into more customers checking out its line in the process.

The promotion launches today as Pokémon Go Lures appear in 11 comic book stores in New York, New Jersey and California, sponsored by Valiant. Information will be released via Valiant's Twitter account as to when the lures will be active. The participating stores in the zeitgeist-friendly promotion are:

The promotion coincides with the launch of the first issue of Valiant's ongoing Faith comic book series, which features the publisher's most popular (and most likely to cross over to the mainstream) character, Faith Herbert. Earlier this week, it was announced that the November issue of the Faith series will guest-star Hillary Clinton, with its release planned for days before this year's U.S. Presidential election.
