Ezra Miller is the relative unknown who is due to play DC speedster the Flash in Warner Bros.’ Justice League movies as well as his own solo movie in 2018.

But Warners isn't relying solely on DC's cachet, and to raise the actor's profile the studio has offered Miller a key role in a film as high-profile as a DC movie: the Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

The actor is in early negotiations for the role of Jacob, the secondary male lead opposite Eddie Redmayne. Warners had no comment.

Redmayne will play magizoologist Newt Scamander, who travels to New York City to find and document magical creatures.

Due to the secrecy surrounding the project, character information is murky. The character of Jacob may be a villain in the movie, although he could be just a rival to Scamander.

Katherine Waterston will play an American witch named Porpentina.

David Yates, who directed the last four Harry Potter films, will helm the project. The screenplay is by Potter author J.K. Rowling.

Miller gained notice with scene-stealing work in the coming-of-age indie Perks of Being a Wallflower and will be seen in the new Judd Apatow comedy Trainwreck. He is repped by Paradigm.
