'Housebound' Horror Comedy Finds Distribution

Morgana O’Reilly, Rima Te Wiata and Glen-Paul Waru star in the movie, which premiered at SXSW.

XLrator Media has picked U.S. distribution rights to Housebound, a horror comedy that premiered at March’s SXSW.

A fall day-and-date VOD and theatrical release is being planned.

The movie stars Morgana O’Reilly, Rima Te Wiata and Glen-Paul Waru and was directed by Gerard Johnstone, who made his feature film debut on the pic.

The story tells of a young woman placed in home detention in the house she grew up. She grates at her new life, which includes a blabbermouth mom who believes the house is haunted. The young woman’s initial disdain turns to paranoia when she begins to hear whispers and bumps in the night and she starts to believe the house is in fact possessed by a hostile spirit who's not particularly thrilled about her return.

Producing Housebound was Luke Sharpe for Semi-Professional Pictures. Executive producers include Ant Timpson, Daniel Story and Chris Lambert while funding came from the New Zealand Film Commission.

XYZ Films repped the filmmakers in the deal.

XLrator’s recent releases include John Carpenter’s The Ward, Bunraku, and CBGB.
