As far as comic book retailers are concerned, Image Comics had a very good 2015.

The Berkeley, California-based publisher of The Walking Dead, Saga and The Wicked and The Divine came out on top in the 2015 Diamond Gem Awards, a comic book industry list voted on by comic book store retailers, winning in six categories including 2015 Comic Book of the Year (Under $3.00), Best New Comic Series and Reprint Trade Paperback of the Year. The publisher was also named as the Comic Book Publisher of the Year in the Over 4 percent Marketshare division.

DC Entertainment also had a lot to celebrate about, winning five awards including Backlist Publisher of the Year, Original Graphic Novel of the Year and Licensed Trade Paperback/Hardcover of the Year (the latter for its Mad Max: Fury Road collection). Both Boom! Studios and Marvel Entertainment took three awards apiece, with Marvel recognized for being the most profitable publisher of the year and publishing the most profitable comic book of the year, Star Wars No. 1.

Diamond Comic Distributors is the primary — and, for some publishers, sole — distributor of product in North America and worldwide, with a market of more than a thousand comic book and pop culture retailers. In a statement accompanying the release of the winners, DCD President and CEO Steve Geppi said that the Gem Awards "give retailers an opportunity to recognize and congratulate the suppliers, titles, and products that served to help grow their businesses in 2015."
