'Imitation Game' Director Tackling Sci-Fi Love Story
Morten Tyldum, the director behind The Imitation Game, is going from the past to the far-flung future.
The Norwegian helmer is in negotiations to direct Passengers, a sci-fi love story that is being produced by Neal Moritz and Ori Marmur, among others.
The script — Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) wrote the most recent draft — tells of a starship transporting human cargo to a colony. The ship malfunctions, causing one male passenger to prematurely thaw from a cryogenic slumber nearly a century before anyone else. Not wanting to be alone, he decides to wake up another passenger, a female.
Passengers has a long development history and at one point had Brian Kirk on board to direct Keanu Reeves and Reese Witherspoon. Rachel McAdams was attached to it before Witherspoon.
Tyldum, who received an Oscar nomination in the best directing category for Imitation Game (the movie is also up for best picture), is repped by WME, Anonymous Content and Bloom Hergott.
