Jason Patric Joins 1920s Mobster Movie 'In the Absence of Good Men'

He will play a detective tasked with taking down Al Capone.

Jason Patric is ready to go after Al Capone.

The actor has joined the cast of In the Absence of Good Men, Heat Vision has learned exclusively. The film is set during the gangland wars of Prohibition-era Chicago. Patric will play tough and conflicted detective Reed, a man who must clean up the city and take down the infamous mobster.

The film also stars Milo Gibson as Capone, as well as Sean Faris, Jamie Lynn Sigler and Peter Facinelli. It follows the violent war between the Italian and Irish mobs that culminated in the famous St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, which saw seven men killed in a machine gun attack thought to be ordered by Capone.

Timothy Woodward Jr. is directing the film from a script by Ian Patrick Williams.  Lauren de Normandie, James Cullen Bressack and Jarrett Furst are producing. Woodward's latest film, Hickok, stars Luke Hemsworth and is in theaters July 7.

In the Absence of Good Men comes 30 years after Robert De Niro played Capone in the mobster classic The Untouchables.
