Scott Steindorff Picks Up Rights to YA Adventure Novel 'Origin' (Exclusive)

Even as Hollywood looks for its next Fifty Shades of Grey, it’s continuing to look for its next Hunger Games, a book with a young heroine that, with its mix of romance and action, can appeal to the female and male demos.

'Hunger Games' Books Cross Milestone

In that frame, Scott Steindorff and his Scott Pictures have picked up the rights to Origin, a forthcoming YA adventure book by Jessica Khoury.

Origin is the debut novel from Khoury, a red-haired 22-year old who lives in Georgia, and tells of Pia, a young woman created to be immortal by scientist somewhere in the Amazon jungles. On her 17th birthday, however, she escapes her compound, meets a village boy named Eio, and goes on an adventure to find the truth of her origin.

The book hits shelves Sept. 4 from the Penguin imprint Razorbill and is intended to be a marquee title; the first printing will be 250,000 copies.

Steindorff will produce the adaptation along with Dylan Russell, an exec at Steindorff’s Stone Village banner who brought the book into the fold.

Steindorff was a producer on the Matthew McConaughey legal thriller The Lincoln Lawyer. Next up is Jane Got a Gun, a Western to star Natalie Portman and be directed by Lynne Ramsay.  

Khoury is repped bv Lucy Carson at the Friedrich Agency. CAA brokered the rights deal on behalf of Khoury and also reps Steindorff.
