Joe Cornish to Direct Universal's Spy Movie 'Section 6'
Jack O'Connell is attached to star in the period spy movie.
One of the hottest spec scripts of last year is about to land a director.
Joe Cornish is Universal's choice to direct Section 6, which attracted intense interest and had David MacKenzie and Tom Hooper as finalists for the gig.
Section 6 is the origin story of the formation of Great Britain's secret intelligence agency, Military Intelligence, Section 6, also known as MI6.
Universal won a heated bidding war for the script in October, paying $1.2 million against $2 million with a progress to production set in motion after a rewrite step.
Earlier this year, Jack O'Connell, the British actor who is portraying Lou Zamperini in Angelina Jolie's biopic Unbroken, became attached to star in the project.
Marc Platt and Adam Siegel are producing with Lawrence Grey.
In keeping with the nationality of the story, Cornish is a Brit. He worked with Edgar Wright to write Steven Spielberg's Tintin animated movie as well as Marvel's upcoming Ant-Man, but is best known for his directorial debut, Attack the Block. Block was a sci-fi horror comedy that was little seen in the U.S. but widely praised by the fanboy community.
He is repped by CAA.
