'John Carter' Poster Premieres
Disney’s action-adventure epic starring Taylor Kitsch will open in theaters on March 9.
Disney released another poster for the upcoming action-adventure film John Carter. The film, based on the Barsoom series by Edgar Rice Burroughs, follows a former Confederate captain (Taylor Kitsch) who is mysteriously transported to Mars, and must resolve a conflict between warring nations.
The poster, which is reminiscent of the covers of pulp novels and dime magazines, shows Kitsch as John Carter in the foreground, with a red background and Martian creatures behind him. The tagline “Lost in Our World, Found in Another” stretches across the top of the poster, which seems to harken back to Carter’s literary origins.
The film is the first live-action project for director Andrew Stanton, who helmed Pixar’s Wall-E and Finding Nemo.
The project was mainly filmed in U.S. locations that had terrain similar to what Mars would look like, such as Utah. The film also shot in parts of the U.K.
“What was fun is that we wanted to make it really location based,” Stanton told The Hollywood Reporter during Disney's D23 expo over the summer. “So we went out to these really extreme desert locations, and you really didn’t have to imagine anything.”
Friday Night Lights star Taylor Kitsch told THR that taking on such an epic role was a challenge for him. “It’s by far the most challenging gig I’ve ever had in my life,” said Kitsch. “It’s the most rewarding as well.”
The film, which also stars Willem Dafoe and Lynn Collins is set for a March 9, 2012, release.
