Josh Trank Denies 'Fantastic Four' Reboot Synopsis
The director of the summer 2015 reboot of the Marvel super team says that the much-circulated synopsis is "definitely" not "anything close" to the real deal.
Last week, reports started appearing across the Internet that Fox's Fantastic Four reboot, helmed by Chronicle's Josh Trank, would give the first family of Marvel Comics a new origin that would have replaced the original 1960s spaceflight with something more in line with the publisher's Ultimate reboot. There's only one problem: The reports aren't true, according to Trank.
"That synopsis is definitely not the synopsis or anything close to the synopsis," Trank tweeted late last week about a two-line description of the film attached to a casting call for the movie that described the characters as being "weapons" for the U.S. government. "I don't know who put that out," he continued.
Since the initial reports, Acting Auditions, the site that shared the synopsis, has edited its listing to read "The story synopsis published here originated from Production Weekly issue number 844 (March 2, 2013) synopsis, NOT here, and it does NOT represent any official announcement by the production companies or 20th Century Fox regarding a storyline and/or synopsis for The Fantastic Four."
It's worth pointing out that, even if that synopsis had been accurate ten months ago, Simon Kinberg was hired to rework the Fantastic Four reboot script "substantially" last October. Whether or not this means that we'll see the team rocket into space without adequate shielding against cosmic rays next summer remains to be seen, of course -- and even if we do, it's unlikely to have been done in order to beat the Communists to the moon.
