Jubilee and Jean Grey Are Very '80s in First Look at 'X-Men: Apocalypse' Costumes

The next film continues the franchise's time-hopping through the fashions and decades of the 20th century.

Continuing the franchise's time-hopping through the fashions and decades of the 20th century, next year's X-Men: Apocalypse takes place in the early 1980s — as the first official glimpse of Lana Condor and Sophie Turner makes very, very obvious.

Director Bryan Singer shared the picture via Instagram, revealing Condor's Jubilee outfit to be remarkably faithful to her original comic book costume, all the way down to the bright yellow jacket. (Sadly, she's lacking the giant pink sunglasses that she wore in the comics, but there's always hope they'll show up elsewhere in the movie).

Turner's Jean Grey, however, might not reflect her comic book character's teenage years — she was, after all, created in the 1960s — but looks to be every part a regular teenager of the '80s, right down to the skinny jeans. Judging from the image, X-Men: Apocalypse may lack the Mad Men-cool of X-Men: First Class and the polyester look of X-Men: Days of Future Past, but it will continue both movies' tradition of being worryingly period-authentic in between the massive fight sequences.

X-Men: Apocalypse opens May 27, 2016.
