'Kaijudo' Sneak Peek: Oded Fehr Previews Season 2 (Exclusive Video)
The animated action-fantasy series, which also stars Scott Wolf and Freddy Rodriguez, returns Friday on Hub Network.
The Choten is back to wreak more havoc.
Oded Fehr (The Mummy, Resident Evil franchise) returns as the voice of the villain, who is out for world domination, in Kaijudo: Clash of the Duel Masters.
The animated action-fantasy series, which also stars Scott Wolf and Freddy Rodriguez, follows a 14-year-old boy named Ray who possesses the rare ability to befriend and duel alongside fantastical creatures from a parallel dimension. The Choten would have these creatures tamed and enslaved so he can rule both the creature and human worlds. Ray, his two best friends and a mysterious league known as the Duel Masters band together to thwart The Choten's plans of world domination and ensure the survival of both races.
The Hollywood Reporter has an exclusive clip from the second-season premiere, debuting at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT on Hub Network. (Watch above.)
Ahead of the show's premiere, Fehr talked to THR about the show's appeal (to him and his kids) and what's ahead in season two.
The Hollywood Reporter: What is it about this show that appealed to you when you signed on for the voice of The Choten?
Fehr: First of all, I love doing cartoons because I love having the opportunity to do something that my kids can actually watch. Everything else I'm doing, they're not going to be able to see until they are 18 years old [his children are 10, 7 and 2]. It's a lot of fun, I get to share it with my son, and I've brought him with me many times when I'm recording. Specifically with this series, I like the idea of an action-adventure show where nobody really gets hurt. Creatures fight each other, but if one loses, they get vanquished. They don't die; they go to another dimension. It's a fantastic fantasy world. And there's great messages for kids about bullying and doing the right thing, supporting your friends and being there for your friends. Every episode tries to bring in good messages for the kids. And the guys I get to work with are a lot of fun; Scott Wolf and I worked together on a show called V. You don't have to get all dressed up and can just go in and relax.
THR: What kind of feedback do you get from kids and parents about the show's messages?
Fehr: The greatest feedback is seeing my kids watch the show. Their friends come over, and my kids are very sensitive to violence or bad implications or somebody getting hurt. They really get affected by it if somebody's treated badly or things like that. Watching the show where I see them rooting for a hero that has good morals, I love it. So many things you see are not appropriate for kids -- a little too dark or mature. Somehow, this show works very, very well [for his two older children].
THR: What's coming up in season two?
Fehr: Basically, this show is about this young boy named Ray who discovers a special ability to communicate and control all these creatures from different dimensions. And my character, The Choten, basically wants to take over the world and all these different dimensions, control these creatures and human beings. Together with his friends, Ray fights me and my allies, and that's going to continue and get bigger and bigger this season. There's more of that going on, the battles.
THR: You're also on USA's Covert Affairs [as Mossad agent Eyal Lavin]. What's ahead for your character?
Fehr: For me, that has been such a blessing. Going to that show is like going home, I can't explain it. [Star] Piper Perabo has become a good, close friend as well as so many other people on the show. I bring my son to set with me, and everybody treats him as a member of the crew. It's just a feeling of home, so every time they bring me back, it's a pleasure. What is going to happen? I'm not even sure myself yet, but I know I just love it. I love the people I work with, and I get to do this amazing travel all over the world and live this kind of very spy-ish like life.
