How would Keanu Reeves have looked with muttonchops? The world may never know.

Reeves, who is currently starring in revenge thriller John Wick, told Moviefone that he wishes he could have played a Marvel or DC hero, but alas, the studios didn't come calling.

"I always wanted to play Wolverine," Reeves said. "But I didn't get that. And they have a great Wolverine now."

"I always wanted to play The Dark Knight," the actor continued. "But I didn't get that one. They've had some great Batmans. So now I'm just enjoying them as an audience." Hugh Jackman has inhabited the role of Wolverine since 2000's X-Men, while Ben Affleck is the next person to respond to the bat signal.

Reeves, whose last film prior to Wick was the 2013 turkey 47 Ronin, recently said in a different interview that "it sucks" for him to not get more offers from Hollywood studios.

Perhaps "sad Keanu" is a fitting description of him after all.
