Lori Petty Joins Indie Thriller 'Dead Awake' (Exclusive)

Phillip Guzman is directing the sleep paralysis thriller, which stars Jocelin Donahue and Jesse Bradford.

Orange Is the New Black actress Lori Petty has joined the cast of sleep paralysis thriller Dead Awake.

The film started principal photography in San Antonio, Texas this week, stars Jocelin Donahue and Jesse Bradford

Written by Final Destination scribe Jeffrey Reddick, the story centers on a young woman (Donahue) who discovers an ancient evil stalking its victims through the real-life phenomenon of sleep paralysis. After losing someone close to her, she teams up with a local artist (Bradford) to investigate the mysterious circumstances surrounding the unexplained death. After she is finally exposed to the terrifying truth by an eccentric expert on sleep disorders, her investigation unknowingly puts her best friend and everyone close to her in danger.

Phillip Guzman is directing the Aristar Entertainment and Incendiary Features film, which also stars Dileep Rao, Brea Grant and James Eckhouse.

Derek Lee Nixon and James LaMarr will produce the indie film along with Guzman, Kurt Wehner and Philip Marlatt. A.J. Gutierrez, LeeLee Wellberg, Galen Walker and Jeffrey Reddick are executive producing.

"I’m thrilled to have such a talented group of people come together to bring this terrifying story to life. Final Destination tapped into the universal fear of dying. But you only die once; you have to sleep every night," says Reddick.

Petty, known for her memorable roles in A League of Their Own and Point Break, plays Lolly Whitehill on Netflix’s hit series Orange Is the New Black. Her upcoming films include Fear, Love, and Agoraphobia. She’s repped by Abrams Artists Agency and Vanguard Management Group
