Mandy Moore Joins Amandla Stenberg in Sci-Fi Thriller 'Darkest Minds' (Exclusive)
This is Us star Mandy Moore has joined Amandla Stenberg in Darkest Minds, Fox’s adaptation of the YA trilogy by Alexandra Bracken.
Jennifer Yuh Nelson, best known for helming the Kung Fu Panda movies, is making her live-action directorial debut with the teen sci-fi project that is being produced by Shawn Levy and his 21 Laps banner.
Set in an America where a pandemic has killed most of the children and teenagers, the story tells of teens with superpowers who are taken from their families and placed inside internment camps.
Stenberg is playing Ruby Daly, a 16-year-old with telekinetic powers who escapes her camp and joins a group of teens on the run from the government.
Moore, the biggest name so far on the project, will play an altruistic doctor and fervent member of a crusade that wants to put a stop to the persecution of the children.
The sci-fi pic is set to begin shooting later this month in Atlanta.
Moore received a Golden Globe nomination for her work on This Is Us, NBC’s breakout drama on which she plays Rebecca Pearson, a mother coping with three kids. The show was recently picked up for a second and third season.
The actress, who is repped by Gersh, Untitled and Ziffren Brittenham, is also reprising her voice role of Rapunzel for Tangled: The Series.
