A space fantasy titled Starlight is joining Mark Millar's new superhero comics universe.

Next year, Millar, the writer-creator of books such as Kick-Ass, Wanted and Jupiter's Legacy, will unveil his 21st century version of the Marvel Universe, a shared literary space inhabited by characters from various books by Millar and his artists.

MPH, a Detroit-set story about teens who discover a drug that gives them super speed, is set to debut in May, but before that Millar will release Starlight: a heroic tale drawn by Goran Parlov, a Croatian artist who may be best known for his work on Marvel's adult-oriented Punisher comics.

Millar describes the story as Flash Gordon-meets-The Dark Knight Returns, centering on a space hero who saved the universe 35 years ago but came back to Earth, where no one believed his fantastic stories. He settled down, got married, had kids and got old. And then...?

"And then that old, sparky, Buster Crabbe-era rocket ship comes back and needs him for one last adventure," Millar tells Heat Vision. "It's Buzz Lightyear meets Unforgiven I guess and I've been motoring through it for months, really having a good time with it.

Starlight is intended to be a six-issue miniseries and will kick off the Millarworld Universe when it's published in March.

Heat Vision is proud to show off the cover to the first issue, the first three pages and a variant cover. Enjoy!
