Marvel Releases Two 'Captain America 2' Deleted Scenes (Video)
The corruption of SHIELD is on full display in these two short scenes cut from the theatrical version of the Russo Brothers' movie.
Ahead of the home release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Marvel Studios has released two deleted scenes from the movie to remind you of a time when Marvel movies were slightly more grounded than reaching for the stars.
Both scenes run a little over one minute in length, and demonstrate the extent of HYDRA’s infiltration of SHIELD, with Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) and Agent 13 (Emily VanCamp) being faced with senior officers—including Robert Redford’s Alexander Pierce—issuing orders that go against their better natures. (Watch both scenes below.)
Alongside Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America: The Winter Soldier cemented Marvel’s cinematic dominance this year, with the studio holding two of the top three box office openings of the year to date (Only Michael Bay’s Transformers: Age of Extinction had a more successful opening than either, making $100 million in its first weekend against Cap’s $95 million and Guardians’ $94 million). The movie also managed to introduce two new characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and set up the climactic storyline of the first season of ABC's Agents of SHIELD TV series.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and starring Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson and Anthony Mackie, the movie will be released for digital download August 19, with the Blu-ray and DVD release following September 9.
