McG is in final negotiations to direct The Babysitter, a horror comedy that is being set up in New Line.

McG will produce via his Wonderland Sound & Vision along with the company’s president, Mary Viola.

Wonderland initially optioned the project and developed it before taking it to a studio. The script, by Brian Duffield, generated heat when it was on the 2014 Blacklist.

Babysitter follows a twelve-year-old boy and his babysitter on a night where things go very wrong, with the boy learning a few lessons about life, love and murder along the way.

Duffield will executive produce along with Wonderland’s newly promoted vp Steven Bello, who brought the project in to the company.

Wonderland is co-financing through a partnership with Zack Schiller of Boies/Schiller Film Group. Schiller will exec produce along with James McGough.

New Line execs Richard Brener, Walter Hamada and Dave Neustadter will oversee.

The movie appears to be a change of pace for McG, who has tended to tackle big-budget projects in the past. He last directed the French-American action movie 3 Days to Kill, which starred Kevin Costner. His other credits include This Means War, starring Chris Pine and Tom Hardy, and Terminator Salvation.

Duffield, who counts Insurgent and Jane Got a Gun as credits, is repped by Gersh and Circle of Confusion.
