Michael Pena to Star in Sony Horror Thriller 'The Bringing' (Exclusive)
Michael Pena is ready to bring it on.
The actor has signed on to star in The Bringing, a horror thriller from Columbia Pictures.
Jeremy Lovering (Sherlock) is on board to direct the project, which initially was inspired by a woman named Elisa Lam, who was found dead in 2013 in a water tank on the roof of the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles — but not before the security camera in the elevator recorded her behaving oddly. The footage later went viral.
The script centers on a man (Pena) who is investigating a woman's death, set in the notorious and infamous Cecil Hotel. Brandon and Phillip Murphy wrote the initial script, which landed on the 2014 Black List and Blood List. Evan Dickson also worked on the project, with the most recent draft being written by Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer, the duo behind the 2014 horror thriller Starry Eyes.
Matthew Tolmach is producing, as is Daniela Cristina Cretu. David Manpearl also is producing. Matt Milam is overseeing for the studio.
Pena, who stole scenes in last year's Ant-Man, recently wrapped shooting Will Smith's Collateral Beauty, which New Line will open Dec. 16. He next will star in Warner Bros.' remake of the 1970s TV series CHiPs, as well as John Michael McDonagh's War on Everyone with Alexander Skarsgard. The actor also is set to return to the Marvel Universe for the Ant-Man sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp, which will shoot next year.
Pena is repped by CAA, Stone Genow and Management 360.
