New 'DC Super Friends'/'Thomas & Friends' Toys to Debut at N.Y. Fair
Forget about the Brave and the Bold — DC Entertainment's latest superhero team-up is all about the Super and the Steam-Powered, with Fisher-Price debuting new toys combining DC Super Friends with the characters from Thomas & Friends. THR has the exclusive first look at four of the mash-up collectibles ahead of their debut at next week's Toy Fair NY 2016.
The new line of Super Friends/Thomas & Friends MINIS follows the 2015 debut of the concept, with toys that portrayed Thomas the Tank Engine as Superman, Percy as Robin and a number of other Thomas characters suiting up for superhero action. This year, Fisher-Price plans to expand the line with more than 35 new MINIS combining DC's heroes and villains with the beloved children's characters.
In a statement, Mike Pisors, director of Thomas & Friends toy global brand marketing, said that "today’s children not only play with trains, but also cars, blocks and action figures," and the partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products "allows us to bring to life mash-ups of preschoolers’ all-time favorite DC Comics Super Heroes and Super-Villains for a relevant, winning combination kids will love."
New combinations will see Emily take on the role of Batman villain Poison Ivy, while Gator focuses his willpower as a Green Lantern, amongst other mash-ups. Below, the first-looks at the Salty/Aquaman, Henry/Bizarro, Victor/Hawkman and Rosie/Supergirl releases.
The new MINIS will be released as 4-packs and 9-packs in Spring 2016 in U.S. and select international markets.
