Now that Alcon Entertainment has tapped Prisoners director Denis Villeneuve to direct its Blade Runner sequel, Joanna Cassidy wants to reprise her role as Zhora, a replicant from Ridley Scott's 1982 sci-fi hit.

"My thought about it is they should because the replicants were based on real people. I think they should shoot the real people, being as they are, as humans," Cassidy said backstage Sunday night at the Canadian Screen Awards in Toronto about the original cast returning for the sequel, including Harrison Ford.

"So I could show up, couldn’t I? I haven’t been retired," she added.

The sequel, written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, takes place several decades after the conclusion of the original Blade Runner, which centered on Rick Deckard (Ford) working as a police operative chasing down replicants, or human clones.

Canadian indie producer Thunderbird Films will executive produce the sequel.

Cassidy said she's viewed the original Blade Runner movie 40 times.

"It was such a brilliant film, so telling, so truthful about where the world is going. So it will be interesting to see what the writers come up with," she said while picking up the best TV comedy actress trophy at the Canadian Screen Awards for her role in HBO Canada's Call Me Fitz.
