The original Star Wars trilogy will be in the spotlight at the upcoming second annual Cayfilm Cayman International Film Festival when Robert Watts, who worked on the films, receives the burgeoning fest’s lifetime achievement award.

Anthony Daniels, who plays C-3PO, and Jeremy Bulloch, who played bounty hunter Boba Fett in several movies, are slated to be on hand for the festivities along with other cast and crew.

The event is set to run July 1-4 in Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands.

Watts began as a production manager on Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope, becoming an associate producer on Empire Strikes Back and co-producer on Return of the Jedi.

When George Lucas and Steven Spielberg teamed up for the Indiana Jones movies, Watts’ services were called upon again. He was an associate producer on Raiders of the Lost Ark and a producer of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Watts also worked with Spielberg as a producer on Who Framed Roger Rabbit and An American Tail: Fievel Goes West.

The film festival also will have several Star Wars-themed panels, among them a spotlight on model-maker and special effects master Lorne Peterson (who later won an Oscar for his work on Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom) and one on Oscar-winning sound designer Ben Burrt. The closing-night gala also will be Star Wars-themed.

Festival director Tony Mark is hoping the event’s intimate nature will create a special vibe for Star Wars fans and fest attendees alike.

“We are a small island, and that makes for a much more up-close and personal experience with individuals who have worked on some of the most successful films of all time, either in front of or behind the camera,” said Mark.

Cayfilm Cayman International Film Festival is repped by APA.
