Pacific Rim 2 has a new release date.

After putting the sequel to the Guillermo del Toro sci-fi action movie on hold, Legendary and Universal have put the sequel back on the calendar, penciling it in for Feb. 23, 2018.

Steven S. DeKnight, the showrunner behind Spartacus and Daredevil season one, will take over the directing reins from del Toro.

Star Wars' John Boyega is the first actor to board the movie; he will play the son of the character played by Idris Elba in the first movie. Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Mary Parent are producing with del Toro. Boyega is exec producing with his partner Femi Oguns.

Last year, Legendary and Universal initially set a summer 2017 release for the sequel but then removed the project from the calendar in September in order to further develop it.

Legendary was bought by Chinese conglomerate Wanda earlier this year. Pacific Rim did very well in China and Wanda was keen on having another movie made.
