Paramount’s Insurge Pictures Picks Up Script 'Prism' (Exclusive)
UPDATED: Two of Ian Fried's other genre scripts have been on the The Black List.
Paramount’s Insurge Pictures is picking up Prism, a pitch from emerging writer Ian Fried, who has had two other scripts land on The Black List.
The project is being closely guarded by execs but it is known to be in the vein of a low-budget sci-fi film.
It is thus fitting that John Davis, the veteran producer behind the low-budget sci-fi pic Chronicle, will produce Prism. Will Rowbotham and Caliber Media are exec producing.
Insurge, which is Paramount’s micro-budget branch, was established in 2010. Its first release was The Devil Inside, which went on to earn $101.8 million worldwide.
A graduate of USC School of Cinematic Arts, Fried’s script The Ever After Murders was on The Black List in 2010. Gaslight, a tale about the infamous Jack the Ripper who is secretly imprisoned in a London insane asylum and is called upon to help Scotland yard solve a series if murders, was on the 2011 list. Exclusive Media’s genre arm Hammer has picked up the rights in 2012.
In 2011, his script Spectral -- a supernatural-action story-- sold to Legendary Pictures. Nic Mathieu is attached to direct.
Fried is repped by WME, Caliber Media Company and Felker Toczek Gellman Suddleson.
