Scott Derrickson Tackling 'Deus Ex' for CBS Films
The movie will borrow heavily from the video game 'Deus Ex: Human Revolution.'
Scott Derrickson has landed the ambitious gig of writing and directing CBS Films’ adaptation of the acclaimed video game Deus Ex.
Roy Lee and Adrian Askarieh are attached to produce the project, which Derrickson will co-write with his Sinister co-writer Robert Cargill.
The Square Enix game was introduced in 2000 and has since seen a sequel and a prequel as the franchise tacked up many awards and millions in sales.
The movie, however, will borrow heavily from the more origin-oriented Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
Human Revolution takes a Batman Begins-like approach to the hero of the story, Adam Jensen, an ex-SWAT security specialist who must embrace “mechanical augments” in order to unravel a global conspiracy. The game is set in a near future where dramatic advances in science, specifically human augmentation, have triggered a technological renaissance.
Derrickson is most known for his horror work, co-writing and directing The Exorcism of Emily Rose and last month’s Sinister. He did tackle sci-fi with 2008’s remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still which starred Keanu Reeves.
He is repped by WME, Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Jackoway Tyerman.
