Sean Astin Checks in for 'Cabin Fever' Reboot
Comic book artist Kaare Andrews is directing from a screenplay penned by Jake Wade Wall.
Sean Astin isn't afraid of the woods.
The Lord of the Rings star will topline a Cabin Fever reboot for Indomina.
Cabin Fever: Patient Zero will begin shooting Aug. 13 in the Dominican Republic with a cast that also includes Brando Eaton (Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel) and Ben Hollingsworth (Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules). The story kicks off when a bachelor party cruise in the Caribbean unexpectedly runs ashore on a medical-research island and a deadly virus is unleashed. The passengers must struggle to find a way to survive before their own demons and the flesh-eating bacteria consumes them all.
Original Cabin Fever producer Evan Astrowsky and his Hypotenuse Pictures is producing Patient Zero with Indomina.
Indomina, a U.S.- and Dominican Republic-based producer and distributor, also plans to resurrect the 2002 horror film with an additional spinoff: Cabin Fever: Outbreak, which will be shot on the Caribbean island as well. Indomina's Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap is currently playing in theaters. The company's upcoming slate includes the Samuel L. Jackson vehicle Afro Samurai.
Andrews is best known as a writer and artist who worked on Marvel Comics’ The Incredible Hulk, Ultimate X-Men and Spider-Man: Reign. He is drawing covers for Marvel’s recently relaunched Ultimate line of comics. Andrews made his feature debut with the supernatural horror movie Altitude, which starred 90210’s Jessica Lowndes and was released by Anchor Bay, and is in post on an entry for the horror anthology ABC’s of Death.
