Steven Soderbergh's 'Haywire' to Be Distributed by Relativity
Relativity Media is taking over the U.S. distribution of Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire from Lionsgate and will release the film Jan. 20, 2012.
The action film has a high-profile cast featuring Antonio Banderas, Michael Douglas, Gina Carano, Ewan McGregor and Channing Tatum.
The movie was produced by Ryan Kavanaugh’s Relativity before it had its own domestic distribution operation and was set to be released by Lionsgate per its output deal with Relativity.
Negotiations between Relativity and Lionsgate have been going on for months as to the fate of the movie, insiders say. And earlier this week, Relativity announced it is taking over the U.S. release of Machine Gun Preacher from Lionsgate.
Relativity needs product and has been aggressively going after projects.
Haywire was previously titled Knockout and tells the story of a freelance covert operative (Carano) who is betrayed during a mission in Barcelona.
Lem Dobbs penned the screenplay, with Gregory Jacobs and Lem Dobbs producing.
