The special Blu-ray edition includes the 1982 theatrical movie, a digital picture that is six times the resolution of DVD and exclusive footage from the set of the film. The combo pack also will feature a new interview with Spielberg.
“When E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial premiered in 1982, it captured the imaginations of people young, old and everyone in between in a way that was unparalleled in modern movie history,” said Craig Kornblau, president of Universal Studios Home Entertainment. “A global cultural phenomenon—and the biggest box-office blockbuster of its day—E.T. brought out the child in all of us. We are thrilled audiences will now be able to experience the film in the astounding quality of Blu-ray.”
E.T. became the top-grossing movie of 1982, receiving nine Academy Award nominations and took home four statuettes. The movie spent a still-record 16 weeks at No. 1 at the domestic box office and remains the eighth-biggest movie of all time in the U.S. with $359.2 million, according to Box Office Mojo. It also holds all-time domestic records for most weeks in the top 10 (44) and most weeks in the top 5 (27).
The cast included Dee Wallace, Henry Thomas, Peter Coyote and a 6-year-old Drew Barrymore.
