Swank Nerds Hobnob at 'Course of the Force' Reception
It’s not every day that you see Darth Vader and a trio of Stormtroopers amble in the halls of the Beverly Hills Hotel, but that’s what occurred Monday.
And while it may have raised eyebrows for hotel guests, it was part of the vibe at the Course of the Force reception, which threatened to turn the hotel’s Bar Nineteen12 into the Mos Eisley Creature Cantina.
The reception brought out a range of luminaries ranging from kid actress-turned-author Danica McKellar to baseball player David Eckstein to legendary H.R. Puffnstuff co-creator Marty Krofft. Among the industry players were Walking Dead exec producer David Alpert, and producers Palak Patel and Adrian Askarieh.
Course of the Force is the lightsaber relay race put on by Nerdist Industries that raised more than $100,000 for the Make-a-Wish Foundation in its inaugural edition last year, which saw participants run incrementally from Los Angeles to San Siego, timed to the opening of San Diego Comic-Con International.
This year’s race will kick off at the Skywalker Ranch in Marin County, hit San Francisco, then head southward to again finish just in time for the opening of the 2013 Comic-Con in San Diego.
While last year’s race featured many costumed runners, the Vader at Monday night’s shindig looked like he was staying put, as he was besieged by folks wanting to snap pictures with the Sith Lord.
