Tom Hardy Attached to Star in 'Splinter Cell'
The project is based on the Ubisoft video game.
Tom Hardy is attached to star in Ubisoft’s movie based on the company’s video game Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell.
Ubisoft is developing the project internally with is motion picture unit before going out to studios in the hope of setting it up.
Eric Singer, who wrote the Black List script American Bullshit, is writing the Splinter Cell script. (Bullshit has David O. Russell attached to direct and Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper and Jeremy Renner set to star.)
Described as a stealth video game, Splinter Cell on a Sam Fisher, a highly trained special operative in a fictional black-ops division. He and his team battle international terrorists.
The first game debuted in 2002 and also featured tie-in book. Five other game installments have appeared since with a sixth one, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist, set for release in spring 2013. Ubisoft says more than 23 million units of the game have been sold.
Ubisoft created its screen division, Ubisoft Motion Pictures, in 2011 in order to bring its video games to film, TV and Internet. It is developing a feature based on Assassin’s Creed with New Regency and is in production on 78 seven-minute episodes of Rabbids, based on the video game series. France Televisions and Nickelodeon are working with Ubisoft on the latter.
Hardy, who starred as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, is in Namibia shooting Mad Max: Fury Road.
