Toronto: Ineffable Hires Scribe to Adapt 'GQ' Article Into Action Thriller (Exclusive)
Ineffable Pictures has tapped Ian Shorr to adapt the GQ article "Excuse Us While We Kiss The Sky," written by Matthew Power.
The magazine piece, which ran in March 2013, told of academics and other white collar types in Europe who by night are urban explorers and infiltrate skyscrapers still under construction, metro stations no longer in use, abandoned bomb shelters, and other off-limit sites. Their actions have made them wanted by the authorities.
The focus of the piece was Bradley Garrett, a geography academic who explores London with a group that included a computer programmer, an ICU doctor, a photographer, among others, with names such as Urbex Explo and Urban Fox and Otter.
Shorr is using the real-life exploits of Garrett and others as the inspiration for a globe-trotting, action-fueled thriller that hopes to be enhanced by a number of twists.
Ineffable’s Raphael Kryszek and Jesse Israel will produce, while the company’s Ross Putman shepherds.
Shorr (UTA, Mosaic, Morris Yorn) wrote the 2008 indie horror movie Splinter and has Cristo, a futuristic re-telling of The Count of Monte Cristo set up at Warners. He sold his sci-fi spec Capsule to 20th Century Fox in the spring and production recently wrapped on The Operator, a horror thriller he wrote.
Ineffable has Julie Plec writing the adaptation of Colleen Houck's national bestselling YA series Tiger's Curse , which is in development at Paramount Pictures (Disruption Entertainment is also producing. Among other projects in development is Late Bloomer, which has Elijah Wood and Olivia Thirlby attached to star.
