Universal Picks Up Sci-Fi Project from 'Last Stand' Writer, 'Adjustment Bureau' Director (Exclusive)
Andrew Knauer ("The Last Stand") will co-write the script with George Nolfi ("The Adjustment Bureau"), who will also direct and produce.
Universal has picked up an untitled sci-fi action project from George Nolfi, the filmmaker behind The Adjustment Bureau, and Andrew Knauer, the scribe behind Arnold Schwarzenegger’s comeback vehicle The Last Stand, which opens Friday.
Details are being kept close to the vest, but Nolfi and Knauer will co-write the script. Nolfi is eyeing the project as a directorial vehicle and will produce.
Michael Hackett, a producer on the 2003 John Woo movie Paycheck -- which starred Ben Affleck, who also worked on Adjustment Bureau -- also is producing.
Nolfi and Knauer met during the making of Last Stand, when the former did rewrite work on the action movie. Knauer wrote Last Stand as a spec, which eventually attracted Schwarzenegger. Nolfi read the spec and was sufficiently impressed that he reached out to Knauer to collaborate on the high-concept project.

Nolfi, repped by WME and Ziffren Brittenham, counts among his credits The Bourne Ultimatum and Ocean’s Twelve. He also wrote Need for Speed, DreamWorks’ adaptation of the EA video game, which is casting.
Knauer, repped by WME, Benderspink and McKuin Frankel, also co-wrote the found-footage horror comedy Ghost Team One, which will premiere at this year’s Slamdance Film Festival.
