Universal's New Wolf-Man Movie Begins Shooting, Will Head Straight to DVD
The werewolf thriller -- which began filming in Bucharest, Romania -- is set for a October 2012 Blu-Ray and DVD release.
It was may not have a title, but Universal is moving ahead with another Wolf-Man movie.
Stephen Rea (The Crying Game), Steven Bauer (Scarface), Ed Quinn (True Blood) and Nia Peeples (Pretty Little Liars), along with Guy Wilson, Adam Croasdell and Rachel DiPillo are starring in an untitled werewolf thriller being made by Universal 1440 Entertainment, the production division of Universal Studios Home Entertainment, which makes original DVD production.
Universal released The Wolfman, a theatrical feature starring Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins, in 2010. The expensive movie (a reported budget of $150 million) grossed only $139 million worldwide. The studio is not saying the new movie is connected with the 2010 feature.
Louis Morneau, who previously helmed Joy Ride II and Hitcher II: I’ve Been Waiting, directs the new movie from a screenplay by Michael Tabb and the writing team of Louis Morneau and Catherine Cyran.
The movie began shooting in Bucharest, Romania today.
STORY: Director Romanek departs 'Wolfman'
The movie amps up the action and the werewolf count with a tale set in an unnamed 19th century European village where a werewolf attack draws bounty hunters, thrill seekers and charlatans. A young man studying under a local doctor joins a team of bounty hunters but “it soon becomes clear that this creature is stronger, smarter and more dangerous than anything they have faced before. As casualties mount and villagers see their neighbors transformed into ravening monsters, the townsfolk take up arms against each other to find the true identity of the werewolf,” according to the studio.
The pic is aiming for a release on Blu-ray, DVD and On Demand in October 2012.
