'The Giver': New Footage Premieres OneRepublic Song 'Ordinary Human' (Video)
Just as Brenton Thwaites' Jonas discovers color, memory and death in Phillip Noyce's The Giver, fans of the popular Lois Lowry-penned YA novel can do the same of a new track for the film from OneRepublic.
Entitled "Ordinary Human," the first half of the song is featured in a new clip, released Thursday. The new footage follows Jonas as he begins to visually question his seemingly ideal, black-and-white world. Like the film's previous trailers, the clip brings viewers into his mind as he is overwhelmed with a vivid collection of sights from The Giver (Jeff Bridges), who trains him to be the community's new Receiver of Memory.
Alongside Fiona (Odeya Rush), Jonas is shown exploring the world around him, causing his mother (Katie Holmes) to worry and the angered Chief Elder (Meryl Streep) to say, "Jonas has become dangerous — he must be stopped." Meanwhile, Taylor Swift as a smiling Rosemary is seated next to The Giver.
Throughout the footage from Weinstein Company title, OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder sings of the need to conform: "I'm just an ordinary human, but I never quit / I'm just an ordinary human, but I don't feel so ordinary today / I'm just a picture-perfect nothing, sometimes I never care / I'll be a picture-perfect human before the sun comes down today / Just an ordinary human, but I don't feel so typical today."
Also featuring Alexander Skarsgard and Cameron Monaghan, The Giver hits theaters Aug. 15.
