First 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1' Teaser Warns Against Panem Resistance (Video)
Alongside Josh Hutcherson's Peeta, Donald Sutherland's President Snow delivers a haunting address in all white: "If you fight against it, it is you who will bleed."
The first teaser trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 has debuted, and it's a direct address from Panem.
Clad in all white, President Snow (Donald Sutherland) appears onscreen to tout a few virtues to viewers across the Districts: unity, prosperity and, most importantly, sacrifice.
"Ours is an elegant system. We seek to nourish and protect," he says calmly. "Your hard work feeds us, and in return, we feed and protect you."
However, the tone of the announcement turns threatening. "But if you resist the system, you starve yourself. If you fight against it, it is you who will bleed."
An obedient Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) then appears alongside Snow, as he says, "I know you will stand with me, with us, with all of us, together as one. Panem today, Panem tomorrow, Panem forever."
Jennifer Lawrence reprises her lead role in the franchise's third installment, alongside Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Julianne Moore and Stanley Tucci, among others. The film adapting roughly one half of Suzanne Collins' third and final Hunger Games book is slated to hit theaters Nov. 21. Mockingjay — Part 2 comes a year later on Nov. 20, 2015.
The previous installment in the Lionsgate franchise, Catching Fire, edged past Iron Man 3 as the highest-grossing film released at the North American box office in 2013. It has made nearly $418.2 million domestically and roughly $854.1 million worldwide to date.
Both Mockingjay films are being directed by Catching Fire helmer Francis Lawrence. Watch the teaser above.
