And the comic book winner of 2013 is … The Walking Dead.

The 115th issue of Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard's long-running zombie series was the best-selling comic book of the year inside the comic book specialty market, according to information released today by Diamond Comic Distributors, beating out DC Entertainment's Justice League of America No. 1 and Superman Unchained No. 1.

STORY: When 'The Walking Dead' Ruled The Holidays

Despite missing out on the top three comics of the year, Marvel Entertainment had the greatest market share throughout 2013, with 33.5 percent of the market in terms of dollar share and 36.97 percent in terms of unit share. Again, DC came in second with 30.33 percent dollar share and 33.35 percent unit share, the two publishers far head of closest competitor Image Comics (8 percent dollar share, 8.49 percent unit share).

In terms of collected editions, however, it was Image's year, with Saga and The Walking Dead dominating the top 10 collected editions and graphic novels of the year, with only Marvel's Hawkeye and DC's Batman breaking the publisher's dominance.
