Dan Mazeau, one of the scribes behind Wrath of the Titans, has been tapped to work on Section 6, Universal’s origin story of Britain’s spy agency MI6.

Universal won a heated bidding war for the script, written by Aaron Berg, in October 2013, paying $1.2 million against $2 million with a progress to production set in motion after a rewrite step.

The project quickly got its lead in Jack O’Connell, who starred in the studio’s Angelina Jolie-directed drama Unbroken, and it became a passion project for Joe Cornish, the director behind British monster movie Attack the Block.

But then the project ran afoul of copyright infringement claims from MG and James Bond rights holder Danjaq who claimed it to be a Bond knockoff.

The parties settled earlier this year, paving the way for the project to move forward.

Mazeau's hiring is the first major development on Section 6 since then.

Marc Platt will produce alongside Adam Siegel for Marc Platt Productions. Lawrence Grey will produce via his Grey Matter Productions. And Nira Park, who produced Attack the Block, will produce for Big Talk Pictures.

Mazeau recently worked on World’s Most Wanted, an action thriller being built around Vin Diesel that Neal Moritz is producing for Universal. His work on that impressed the studio which led him to Section 6.

He is repped by CAA, Circle of Confusion and Katz Golden Rosenman
