Zack Snyder Teases Another 'Star Wars'/DC Crossover (Photo)
On Twitter this weekend, the "Batman v Superman" director shared a second image pairing a DC super hero with a character from George Lucas' space opera.
Zack Snyder is at it again.
Following up on his Comic-Con tweet that featured Henry Cavill as Superman wearing a Jedi cloak and brandishing a lightsaber, the director of Man of Steel and 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice tweeted a second DC/Star Wars image on Saturday, featuring Batman and R2-D2, captioned “BATMAN & R2BIN.” (See the tweet below).
So does this mean that Snyder has brought a full-scale R2-D2 onto the Batman v Superman set, and if so, does that mean that there might be something to those believing that these tweets suggest a Star Wars crossover coming to the Warners-owned DC universe? Well… not exactly.
Hours after the Snyder tweet, Clay Enos—who’s been responsible for all of the official Batman v Superman photos to date—shared his own tweet, showing that the Batman in Snyder’s image wasn’t exactly Ben Affleck; instead, the shot had come from Snyder’s iPhone, and was actually of two action figures. (Again, see the tweet below.)
Quite why Snyder’s posting these images—beyond the simple joy of trolling the Internet by suggesting a crossover between properties that is very, very unlikely to happen (Star Wars, after all, shares an owner with Warners’ primary super hero competitor, Marvel)—is likely to remain a mystery for a long time, if not forever. If nothing else, it’s certainly a good way of getting people to talk about DC properties on a weekend when Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy was smashing box office records.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be released May 2016. Don’t expect too many Star Wars characters to cameo in the finished movie.
