Bangkok fest screening 70 films
July 29, 2008 The sixth annual Bangkok International Film Festival in September will feature a lineup of 70, mostly made-in-Asia films, said organizers, who face a drastically slashed budget. At a press conference Tuesday, festival organizers the Federation of National Film Associations of Thailand sought to dispel controversy stemming from a bribery scandal surrounding their predecessors and announced a base budget of 25 million baht ($745,000) for the Sept. 23-30 event. Though the budget, provided by the Tourist Authority of Thailand, could rise to $2.38 million with sponsorship from the likes of Sony and Fujifilm, organizers said it would pale in comparison with its previous annual average of about $6 million.
